Larry Fink's black-and-white images are a little lighter. Though known for his strong support of social values and grassroots activism, and for a talent of bringing out the political and cultural in his imagery, they often display a sense of humor or fun. Larry Fink is the first and only monograph to review the highlights of the photographer's 40-year career. According to the publisher, his true genius, "lies in the way he celebrates the expressiveness of the human body." This rings true when looking at the images in this book. "Ferretti Wedding," shows the swollen legs of a grandmother, whose feet look too big for her shoes. Hair is the focus of "Edwardian Ball, Frick Museum." Arms and legs take over in "Santa d'Orazio and Kara Young's Wedding," just as the jaw does in "Boxing, Blue Horizon" and a fist in "Washington, D.C." The author, Laure Dahlberg, is associate professor at Bard College. Her text offers insight into this photographer's life and art.
